How many Indians are there in the US?
indo-us-flag-nsA report from Migration Policy Institute indicate that there are around 1.6 million foreign born Indians in the United States making them the third largest immigrant group. However, Mexicans and Filipinos form the major part of the immigrant population in the US.

In 2008 the total strength of Indians in the US, both native and foreign born was 2.3 million. Among this native born US citizens of Indian ancestry was 455,000. Indian immigration to the US has increased rapidly over the course of time. Adding to the count is the immigration of people with Indian ancestry from East Africa, Canada,UK and the Caribbean. Indian-born accounted for about one in 10 immigrants in six states.

Indian American Anamika Veeramani wins US Spelling Bee contest.

History has habit of repeating itself whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant. We’ll place this  one in the former  category. Once again an Indian-American has won the coveted US Spelling Bee contest. Anamika Veeramani, a 14 year old girl from North Royalton, Ohio clinched the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee spelling out the medical term “stromuhr”.

17 year old Indian-origin whiz kid wins BBC contest
indian-origin-whiz-kid-arjun-bbc-ukArjun  Rajyagor, a 17 year old boy of Indian origin has been selected as the first winner of BBC’s reality show Junior Apprentice.  The show which is quite reminiscent of Donald Trump’s show – The Apprentice, challenges young and ambitious youngsters to complete tasks to claim a prize which can help them take a step closer to their dream career.

Which is the most searched brand on Google?
nokia-logo-nsGoogle has released the list of brands which were searched more often by its users in India during the last five months. Calling the list its first “Brand Zeitgeist”, Google gave the highest rank to cell phone manufacturer Nokia. The top ten comprises of SBI, Samsung, Sony, BSNL, Tata, IRCTC, HDFC, ICICI and Airtel, in that order Google users searched for mobile specifications and prices when Nokia was used as the keyword.

Indian held in UK for fake marriage
Four people were arrested in Oxfordshire, London for being part of a fake marriage to a Polish national. The groom who is an Indian citizen is among the accused who have been detained by the police. Based on intelligence, officers from the Border Agency’s Thames Valley immigration crime team halted the wedding at Oxfordshire Register Office bring to light another immigration racket.
